Part-time · Abbotsford, Surrey & Vancouver, BC
About AltaCom
AltaCom is a Calgary-based IT services company. We look after the technology for 20+ local businesses — law firms, accounting practices, distributors and more — covering managed IT, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, cloud and business software. Our clients count on us to keep their people working, and we take that seriously.
The role
We're hiring a part-time IT Support Technician to help our team resolve everyday tech issues for clients. This is an entry-level role: we care more about curiosity and a willingness to learn than a long résumé. You'll work alongside experienced technicians and get real, hands-on experience with business IT.
This role is a great fit for college or university students in IT or a related program, or semi-retired IT professionals who want flexible, meaningful part-time work.
Location: This position is based in the Abbotsford, Surrey and Vancouver area of British Columbia, and includes on-site support at local client locations. We're also hiring for the same role in Lethbridge, Alberta.
What you'll do
- Respond to client support requests by phone, email and remote session
- Troubleshoot Windows PCs, laptops, printers and peripherals
- Help users with Microsoft 365: Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, passwords and MFA
- Set up new computers and accounts for new hires, and offboard departing users
- Diagnose basic network issues such as Wi-Fi, connectivity and printer access
- Document your work clearly in our ticketing system
- Escalate more complex issues to senior technicians, and learn from how they're solved
Requirements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 from a user or admin perspective
- Comfort troubleshooting PC hardware and software issues
- Basic networking knowledge: IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi
- A quick learner who is willing to pick up new tools and processes
- Clear, patient communication with non-technical people
- Reliability and good judgment when handling client systems and information
Nice to Have
- Customer service experience (retail, help desk, call centre or similar) — a strong asset
- Enrolment in, or completion of, an IT, computer science or networking program
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+ or Microsoft 365 Fundamentals
- Experience with remote support tools or a ticketing system
What We Offer
- Part-time, 16 to 24 hours per week — we'll work around class schedules where we can
- Hands-on training on real business IT
- Mentorship from senior technicians
- Room to grow your responsibilities
- Pay based on experience, discussed at interview
