AI for Your Business — Done Right
Your team is already using AI. The question is whether it's putting your data at risk. AltaCom helps Calgary businesses adopt AI tools that are powerful, private, and fully under your control. Proudly serving Calgary and businesses across Alberta since 2011.

The Problem
Your employees are using AI. But whose rules are they following?
Consumer AI tools like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Gemini were built for individual users — not for organizations handling client data, financial records, or proprietary information. When employees use these tools without oversight, your business assumes all of the risk.
ChatGPT (OpenAI)
High RiskConversations may be used to train future OpenAI models by default
No guarantee your data stays within Canada or meets PIPEDA requirements
Employees routinely paste client data, financials, and source code into prompts
No audit trail — no visibility into what your team shares or with whom
DeepSeek
High RiskData is routed to and stored on servers in the People's Republic of China
Subject to Chinese national security laws that compel data disclosure to the state
Already banned by several governments and regulated industries globally
No credible data processing agreements available for Canadian businesses
Consumer AI Tools
High RiskConsumer-tier accounts (free/Pro) lack enterprise data residency controls
Inputs may be reviewed by human trainers under some plans
No integration with your identity provider — shared or personal logins only
Shadow IT: IT teams have no visibility when staff sign up independently
Shadow AI is now the #1 data governance risk for Canadian businesses
PIPEDA and Alberta's PIPA require organizations to know where personal data goes and to whom. When an employee pastes client information into a consumer AI tool, that data leaves your control — and your organization may be in breach before you know it happened.
The AltaCom Way
Enterprise AI that keeps your data where it belongs
AltaCom deploys enterprise-grade AI — not consumer accounts. Whether that is Microsoft Copilot embedded in your M365 environment, Claude for Business with SSO and admin controls, Azure OpenAI powering custom workflows, or a combination of platforms, the right choice depends on your business — not on a vendor preference.
We pair every deployment with governance: acceptable use policies, access controls, employee training, and ongoing monitoring — so you always know what AI is touching and what it is doing with your data.
Data stays within your enterprise AI environment — never on consumer servers
Full audit logs of AI interactions for compliance
Blocked access to unsanctioned tools at network level
Staff training on safe, effective AI use
Quarterly reviews as AI capabilities evolve
Consumer AI vs. AltaCom Managed AI
What We Deliver
Enterprise AI — assessed, deployed, and managed
AI Readiness Assessment
We audit your current data environment, identify AI opportunities, and produce a prioritized roadmap — including which tools fit and which to avoid.
Microsoft Copilot Deployment
Deploy M365 Copilot across Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook — AI embedded in the tools your team already uses, with your data staying inside your Microsoft tenant.
Claude for Business
Deploy Claude Teams or Claude Enterprise with SSO, admin controls, and audit logging — giving your team access to one of the most capable AI assistants under full IT governance.
Azure OpenAI Integration
Custom AI tools built on Azure OpenAI — powerful models isolated in your own environment, integrated with your line-of-business systems, with zero data leakage.
AI Governance & Policy
Acceptable use policies, data classification rules, and staff guidelines so your team knows exactly what AI tools are approved and how to use them safely.
AI Awareness Training
Practical training that helps your staff get maximum value from approved AI tools while understanding the risks of unsanctioned alternatives.
Custom AI Agent Development
We design and build AI agents tailored to your business workflows — automating repetitive tasks, surfacing insights, and integrating with your existing systems.
Ongoing AI Management
Monitoring, licence management, prompt governance, and quarterly reviews to ensure your AI environment stays secure as the technology evolves.
Custom AI Agents
We build AI agents for your specific workflows
Beyond off-the-shelf tools, AltaCom designs and deploys custom AI agents — autonomous systems that handle specific business tasks end-to-end. Built on Azure OpenAI and integrated with your existing software, every agent runs inside your environment so your data never leaves your control.
HR Agent
Answers employee questions on policies, benefits, and onboarding, routes HR requests to the right person, and keeps your team informed — without burdening your HR staff.
Document Processing Agent
Reads invoices, contracts, and forms, extracts key data, and routes documents to the right person or system without human review.
Client-Facing Chatbot
Answers customer questions 24/7 using your own knowledge base — your tone, your policies, your data. No hallucinations from public AI.
Business Intelligence Agent
Connects to your data sources and answers business questions in plain English — sales trends, inventory levels, KPI summaries on demand.
Email & Communication Agent
Drafts responses, summarises email threads, flags urgent messages, and routes inquiries — cutting hours of inbox management daily.
Compliance & Audit Agent
Monitors documents and workflows for policy compliance, flags exceptions, and generates audit-ready reports automatically.

Discuss Your Use CaseHow It Works
From assessment to production AI — in six weeks
Assessment
Week 1–2We map your data flows, identify where employees are already using AI (sanctioned or not), and evaluate which business processes are highest-value AI candidates.
Strategy & Tool Selection
Week 2–3We recommend the right enterprise AI platform for your business — Microsoft Copilot, Claude for Business, Azure OpenAI, or a combination — based on your workflows, existing infrastructure, and compliance requirements. No assumptions, no pre-selected tools.
Governance Setup
Week 3–4We write your AI acceptable-use policy, configure data loss prevention rules and access controls, and block unsanctioned AI tools at the network and endpoint level.
Deployment & Training
Weeks 4–6Approved enterprise AI tools are deployed with role-specific training so your team actually uses AI effectively — not just installs it and ignores it.
Ongoing Management
OngoingWe monitor AI usage, manage licences, update policies as the threat landscape evolves, and brief you on new AI capabilities that could benefit your business.
Common questions
AI adoption — answered
They use similar underlying technology (GPT-4), but there is a critical difference: Microsoft Copilot is built on Azure OpenAI Service, which means your data is processed inside your Microsoft 365 tenant and is never used to train OpenAI's models. Consumer ChatGPT sends your inputs to OpenAI's shared infrastructure where — on free and some paid plans — your data can inform future model training.
DeepSeek is a Chinese AI company subject to China's national security laws, which compel organizations to provide data to the Chinese government on request. Any data entered into DeepSeek — including client information, financial data, or internal communications — could be accessed by Chinese state authorities. Several governments (including the US, UK, and Australia) have already banned DeepSeek on government devices. Canadian businesses in regulated industries should treat it as a prohibited tool.
This is the most common situation we encounter. The first step is a Shadow AI audit — we identify which tools are in use, what data has been exposed, and what policies need to be implemented. We then block access to unsanctioned tools, deploy approved alternatives with equivalent capability, and run training so staff understand why the change matters. The goal is to give your team better AI tools, not to take AI away.
Microsoft 365 is the most common foundation because Copilot integrates directly into the tools your team already uses. However, we also deploy Azure OpenAI for custom AI applications that don't depend on M365 — for example, AI-powered document processing, client-facing chatbots, or line-of-business tool integrations. We recommend the right approach based on your existing environment.
